Welcome to the SSA Area 9 Website
Hello and welcome to our website. We are a group of side saddle enthusiasts across central and southern Scotland who encourage and support the development of the sport in our area.
So if you've always wanted to try side saddle but not been sure where to start why not get in touch? We'll be happy to answer any questions you have and help you get started.
Most horses and ponies take very well to side saddle and enjoy showing off their new-found skills. Why not give it a go?

Grade tests and Instructors Exams on 22 September 2012:
Why not give yourself a challenge for 2012 and have a go at a Grade Test, or think about becoming an instructor? Have a look at the SSA members' handbook for details of what's needed, then put your name forward using the forms provided in the "Events" section. Good luck!
We will also be looking for 'guinea pigs' for the instructors examinations. If you have a day to spare and fancy a free lesson, please get in touch with Céline before the end of June. All levels welcome!

FIFE SHOW:
Fife Show will take place on 19th My 2012 and is offering side saddle classes for the first time this year. Please, support this show if you can - entries will be accepted on the day. More details available here.
Area 9 is also organising a few more events this summer, including a couple of clinics and a side saddle ride out. The venue for the summer show has changed too so please, check the "Events" section of the website.
I have also added the booking forms to Roger Philpot's clinic here and the Area 9 Summer Show schedule and entry form here.

The Area Spring show took place on yesterday at the Grange Riding Centre (West Calder) and was judged by Mrs S. J. Davies. It was lovely to see so many side saddle riders about - thank you all for your support and thank you to our lovely judge for coming all the way from County Durham! I have added the photos in the Gallery and listed the results in the "Results" section.

What a great clinic we had with Roger Philpot last week! Lots of riders, lots of watchers and everybody learnt so much and had such a great time. Thanks a lot Roger, we can't wait for the next one!

The "Showing under SSA rules" workshop took place on Saturday 17th March and was another great success with 10 people attending, including three non-members. Unfortunately, Marjorie couldn't be with us on the day but we still had a good time learning lots and having lots of fun!

The first clinic of the year took place on Saturday 3rd March and was a great success, with seven riders (and many watchers) attending. Thank you very much Jean Marsden and Emma Green, we all enjoyed the clinic - it was hard work, but well worth it!

We now have two confirmed examiners for the grade tests and instructor examinations: Mrs V. Hogg and Mrs J. Senior. The details are in the 'Events' section of the website.

**NEW EVENT** A "Showing under SSA rules" workshop will take place on Saturday 17th March 2012 at Burnpark, West Calder. See the "Events" section for more information.
The grade tests and instructor examinations booking forms are now available for downlaod from the "Events" section.
I have also re-looked the website today - you might have to refresh your browser to see it. I hope you like the new colours!

The social gathering and tack sale held on Saturday 4th February was a great success. Many of our regular members came along and a few new and prospective members attended too. It was lovely to see everyone and grab a few bargains; we enjoyed it so much that we are thinking of having a similar event this autumn, at the end of the show season.
